Through a crucible for the ages America has been tested anew and America has risen to the challenge.
Today, we celebrate the triumph not of a candidate, but of a cause, the cause of democracy.
The will of the people has been heard and the will of the people has been heeded.
We have learned again that democracy is precious.
Democracy is fragile.

And at this hour, my friends, democracy has prevailed.

MLK Day of Service

Successful Food Drive

Over two tons of non-perishable items were collected by Orange County Democrats for distribution to clients of the Love Outreach Food Pantry and the Lions/Lioness Wilderness Food Pantry in the county on the 2021 MLK National Day of Service. The Food Drives were an opportunity to support our community and help address food insecurity exacerbated by the Coronavirus pandemic in the county.   There is no single face of food insecurity as it affects all ages, ethnicities, and household compositions. The National Day of Service celebrates and honors the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Volunteers from the Lake of the Woods Democratic Club assembled near the entrance to the development and were kept busy between 9:00 and 1:00  as they collected $420 and received and sorted over 3000 pounds of donations that were then trucked to the Wilderness Food Pantry in the Locust Grove Town Center on Rt. 20.

Orange County Democratic Committee volunteers staffed the Love Outreach Food Pantry in the Town of Orange where over 1000 pounds of donations were received. They extended their original schedule to receive additional donations.  The Love Outreach Food Pantry is located at 252 Blue Ridge Drive, Orange.

Volunteers also included members of The Youth (Orange County High School Young Democrats Club) and a student fulfilling her community service requirement.

Though the shelves and storage of the pantries may be well stocked now, please consider them for future donations, particularly while the economy is floundering, and the Coronavirus is restricting fulltime employment.

Thanks to the outstanding leadership of Jen Heinz, Rick Clore, and Ellen Wessel for organizing, staffing, and publicizing the Orange County Democrats’ 2021 MLK Day of Service.

Resolution Supporting the Removal of Donald Trump from Office

Whereas it is the mission of the Orange County Democratic Committee to promote democratic principles;

Whereas Donald Trump, President of the United States, has incited violence against a co-equal branch of government in order to disrupt their constitutionally mandated duty and to overturn the November 2020 election and retain power, has illegally solicited the Georgia Secretary of State to overturn his loss, and has emboldened and encouraged the very worst impulses in our society; and

Whereas Donald Trump continues to falsely claim massive fraud robbed him of the election and will likely continue to incite more violence which makes him a clear and present danger during the last days of his administration; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, that the Orange County Democratic Committee supports Senator Mark Warner, Senator Tim Kaine, and Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger in their demands that Donald Trump be removed from office to protect our country’s democratic principles, whether that be through the application of the 25th amendment or by impeachment.
